NAIROBI, 12, FEBRUARY, — Six construction workers have been rescued alive Tuesday morning after a multi-storey building collapsed near the busy OTC area in the city center, triggering panic, dust clouds, and a massive emergency response.
The building, which was reportedly under construction, came crashing down in the late afternoon, trapping several workers beneath concrete slabs and twisted metal. Witnesses described hearing a loud rumble moments before the structure collapsed , as people ran for safety.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, police, and Kenya Red Cross teams, rushed to the scene within minutes. Rescue operations began immediately as bystanders joined in, forming human chains to remove debris. Heavy machinery was later deployed to lift large chunks of concrete while paramedics stood by to administer first aid.
The central police commander stephen Nyakombo said the teams responded quickily to the scene , helping those trapped and securing the area.
“we have so far resqued and accounted for all the wokers. Out of eighteen , six were resqued with no injuries”, said Nyakombo .He said that the investigations are ongoing
After a long search , all six trapped workers were successfully pulled from the rubble alive. Officials confirmed that the victims sustained injuries ranging from minor cuts to fractures and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment while the remaining twelve were not harmed . No fatalities have been reported due to the incident .
According to the National Disaster Operation centre (NDOC),building collapsed around 4.00 am on February 11, 2026, during the ongoing night construction.
Authorities have since cordoned off the area as structural engineers assess the stability of adjacent buildings. Preliminary reports suggest the structure may have been weakened during construction, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
The OTC area, one of Nairobi’s busiest commercial hubs, remained partially closed as rescue teams continued to clear debris and ensure no additional victims were trapped.
County officials have urged developers to strictly adhere to building regulations, warning that negligence in construction continues to pose serious risks to public safety.
