Kajiado 2027: Hon. Kanchori, DCP Launch Political Aspirants Forum for United Front

Hon. David Kanchori and the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) have launched a political aspirants forum in Kajiado County, aiming to unite candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As Kenya gears up for the 2027 general elections, Kajiado County is emerging as a hotbed of political activity, with new alliances and ambitious visions reshaping its future. At the forefront of this transformation is Hon. Daniel Kanchori, a former MCA for Oloosirkon/Sholinke Ward, who has partnered with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) to launch a Political Aspirants Forum aimed at forging a united front in Kajiado. This bold initiative, announced on July 31, 2025, seeks to consolidate political aspirants across the county, fostering unity and a shared agenda to challenge the status quo and deliver transformative leadership.

The Political Aspirants Forum, launched in Kitengela under the DCP banner, is a strategic response to Kajiado’s fragmented political scene. Led by Hon. Kanchori, with Kajiado Senator Kanar Seki, MCA Kaputiei North Hon. Joshua Olowasa alongside community leaders, youth, and women’s groups present aim to unite aspirants from diverse backgrounds to champion inclusive development.

Speaking at the launch, Kanchori said “Kajiado deserves leadership that prioritizes its people over personal ambition.” The event drew aspirants from across Kajiado’s five constituencies—Kajiado East, Central, North, South, and West.

The forum’s launch comes at a time when Kajiado is grappling with political realignments. Kanchori’s initiative, backed by DCP, positions the party as an alternative to these traditional power blocs, appealing to voters disillusioned by unfulfilled promises and clan politics.

Dr. Daniel Kanchori’s political journey is marked by resilience and a commitment to public service. Having served as MCA for Oloosirkon/Sholinke Ward, Kanchori gained prominence for his legal acumen and advocacy for equitable resource distribution. His academic credentials bolster his appeal as a forward-thinking leader capable of engaging with national policymakers. His decision to vie for the Senate in 2027 reflects his ambition to elevate Kajiado’s voice in the national arena, particularly on issues like devolution, land rights, and economic development.

The DCP is positioning itself as a viable alternative to UDA and ODM. The party’s commitment to fielding candidates in all upcoming by-elections, signals its aggressive expansion strategy. In Kajiado, DCP’s backing of Kanchori’s forum underscores its intent to capitalize on the county’s diverse electorate, which includes urban professionals in Kitengela and Ngong, pastoralist communities in Kajiado South, and agriculturalists in Kajiado Central.

DCP’s platform emphasizes devolution, transparency, and economic empowerment, resonating with Kajiado’s youth and women, who form a significant voting bloc. The party’s support for Kanchori aligns with its broader goal of challenging UDA’s dominance in Kajiado, where leaders like Governor Lenku and  State house controller Katoo Ole Metito hold sway. By endorsing the forum, DCP aims to create a coalition of aspirants who can consolidate votes and challenge the status quo, particularly in constituencies like Kajiado East, where Kakuta Maimai are formidable contenders.

The Political Aspirants Forum faces significant hurdles. Kajiado’s political landscape is fiercely competitive, with established figures like Katoo Ole Metito, who is vying for the gubernatorial seat, and Leah Sankaire, the Women Representative, commanding strong voter bases. DCP’s relative newness compared to UDA and ODM may limit its grassroots penetration, especially in rural wards where party loyalty runs deep.

The forum’s success also hinges on managing internal rivalries among aspirants. With multiple candidates eyeing seats in Kajiado East, Central, and South, ensuring consensus and preventing defections will be critical. The DCP’s strategy of organizing consensus retreats, as seen in UDA’s Naivasha retreat, could serve as a model to align aspirants.

As Kajiado prepares for 2027, all eyes are on Kanchori and his coalition of aspirants. Their ability to unite diverse voices and challenge entrenched powers will determine whether this initiative becomes a transformative force or a fleeting experiment. For now, the Political Aspirants Forum represents a bold step toward a new dawn for Kajiado.
